3. The Share Buttons with Counts plugin
The plugin adds social share buttons to WordPress sites that install it. Below is how the plugin handles data on those sites (your visitors’ sites when they install the plugin).
3.1 Share counts (click-based)
Share counts in this plugin are click-based. They increase when someone clicks a share button on the website where the plugin is installed.
- Counts are not official totals from Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, or other networks.
- The plugin does not call social network APIs to fetch share totals.
- Displayed total = optional starting count (set by the site owner) + click counts recorded on that site.
Count data is stored in the site’s own WordPress database (post meta). It stays on that site and is controlled by the site owner.
3.2 Throttling (to prevent count spam)
To limit rapid repeat clicks from the same visitor, the plugin may store a short-lived technical key as a WordPress transient. That key is based on:
- Post ID
- Visitor IP address
This is used only to prevent count spam. It is:
- Temporary (expires after a short time, based on the site’s throttle setting)
- Not sold
- Not used for advertising
- Not shared with third parties by the plugin
Site owners control the throttle duration in the plugin settings (including turning the effect of throttling down by setting minutes to 0 where applicable).
3.3 What the plugin does not do
The plugin does not:
- Create accounts for end visitors
- Send share-count data to the plugin author or to sharebuttons.himanshusir.in
- Load third-party social tracking pixels for counting
- Sell or rent personal data
- Use visitor data for advertising networks
When a visitor clicks a share button, they are typically sent to the chosen network (WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, etc.) to complete sharing. Those networks have their own privacy policies.
3.4 Data stored on the site that installs the plugin
On a site that uses the plugin, data may include:
